Sarah Conner-The Leader of the Future
Another example of a strong lead female character can be seen in the Resident Evil films. Milla Jovovich plays Alice, an employee for the Umbrella Corporation. In the first film Alice wakes up confused and disoriented and ends up going inside the corporation's headquarters with a team of elite military soldiers. Despite neither Alice nor the audience knowing what exactly is going on [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Alice--like Ripley--finds herself pitted against terrifying creatures.
A final example of women in these genres that go through a transformation is the wonderful performance of Linda Hamilton in The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. In the first film, Hamilton's character of Sarah Conner is a single young woman who waitresses and lives with her best friend in an apartment. She is not portrayed as particularly brave or outspoken, and certainly has no idea how to use even a handgun. It is this reason that her transformation is perhaps more dramatic than either Ripley's or Alice's.
When Stanley Kubrick's The Shining came out in 1980, the lead female character was little more than a terrified, stumbling wreck desperately trying to get her and her son away from their mad father. For a long time [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], this was the typical role of women for science fiction and horror films. But there are some films that stick out as having not simply women survivors of something terrible, but women who go through a transformation to become something more than what they were.
Sarah's life changes instantly when the terminator finds her and she is rescued by Kyle Reese. Her life is thrown into chaos and she is forced to question everything she has come to know. It's this psychological battle in addition to being forced to use all her wits to survive that mold her into something altogether different for the film's sequal.

She manages to survive the horrors of the r, and in the film's sequel, Alice's character is much changed. Not only does she also have the knowledge of the Umbrella Corporation to aid her, but she now has superpowers. In this second film, our heroine is not only a strong, independent woman who can handle a gun or two; she is empowered with abilities that allow her to combat all human enemies as well as any mutants or zombies she comes across. Alice represents all the strengths that come with Masculinity but she still retains the attractiveness and emotions of Femininity.
In Terminator 2, Sarah's character is re-introduced not as the nice suburban woman audiences met in the first film, but instead as a battle-hardened, tough-as-nails woman who is ready for anything that comes her way. She is darker, paranoid and more cy
Ripley is also the one who attempts to keep the contaminated crew members from coming back aboard after being exposed to the aliens (IMDB). In subsequent Alien films, Ripley's character remains as steadfast as ever, but now she has attained a knowledge of the aliens. This creates a strong, determined, and newly intelligable character, more than capable of surviving the next attack.
Officer Ripley and Her Aliens
Perhaps the earliest example of this type of heroine was Sigourney Weaver in the Alien films. Weaver played Warrant Officer Ripley, one of two women in a group of men. Ripley is already a solid, outspoken woman from the get-go [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and she doesn't hesitate to do or say what she believes is right. It was Ripley who discovered that the signal the ship's computer found was not an SOS, but a warning signal instead.
