Watson [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], played by Law has his moments as his loyal partner but the friendship between him and Holmes seems half-hearted. It is hard to understand why Holmes is so adamant to keep Watson from leaving their partnership to be with his fiance.
Guy Ritchie of Lock, Stock and two smoking barrels, Snatch and RocknRolla sets the tone from the get go. In a cracker opening where Holmes calculates his assault against a Henchman [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which play out in slo-mo and then follow with the fast almost ballet flurry of hits and kicks. By doing this Ritchie rarely allows his characters to breathe. Ritchie takes to the film with gusto and because of this he rarely allows his characters to breathe.
Apparently the film has a few brief references to some of the Doyle books but it doesn’t go further than that. Ritchie and the four writers attached to the screenplay have gone for a broader and vamped up Holmes. It feels as though they are trying to please too many people in the audience. It works for the most part and there might be a few people who will go home and buy one of Doyle’s books. Some might. Many will end up waiting for the DVD release and the inevitable sequel.
Viewers who are not familar the Arthur Conan Doyle movies will be able to enjoy this movie with its big name cast and a box warm popcorn. Guy Ritchie of Lock, Stock and two smoking barrels has made movie that will not disappoint blockbuster fans.

Legendary Sherlock Holmes Back On Screen
Mark Strong as the out of this world Lord Blackwood is a sinister and creepy force. The extreme close ups of his pale face were as unsetling as another infamous lord. He soon has London in the grips of panic as he puts together a plan that involves the occult and heinous experiments.
No Absence of Action
Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler however is a strong presence as the femme fatale who has outwitted Holmes twice. She is ambitious, cool and calculated and she is sexy. This is something that Holmes’ logical mind cannot fathom. He is unemotional and unattached but he cannot understand why his logical mind does not work against her charm.
No Chemistry Between Lead Characters
The story moves with the action sequences in a great sweep of London [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as Downey dives through a window into the Thames and reaches the climatic end at the unfinished Tower Bridge. Dr. Watson, played by Jude Law is never far behind and he too tears it up in London’s backstreets.
Downey plays Sherlock Holmes as a tragic genius, only content when that great mind is at work. In between cases he is a self destructive wreck who toils away with bizarre experiments. Although it is an interesting aspect to the character it seems toned down. He is no Inspector Rebus or a Jimmy McNulty.
