The image of truth means that the story has the image of truth, because it could not do its job of giving advice unless it had some persuasive similarity to the truth. Image can be either a semblance or an apparition,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where semblance preserves the real proportions, and apparition does not. An apparition is much less likely to have similarity to the truth. The fable is therefore false in nature and credible in principle.
A fable, also called myth, is defined as a fictitious story with the image of truth. The main characteristic of the fable is that it is entirely fictive. Without that characteristic, the story cannot be called a fable. It is called fictive because it is composed of fictions.
