Ingredients:
Tomato/Pizza Sauce
Ingredients:
Directions:
Use the above recipe to create a delicious meat sauce. Most meat sauce recipes call for ground beef, but ground beef does not add the ideal taste. Using steak does not need to be expensive and will add a lot more flavor and texture.
Directions:
1 large can of whole tomato or tomato with basil and/or oregano (whole tomato is preferable to crushed tomato since it will taste fresher; check the ingredients to look for plain tomato with nothing added or with only one or two herbs added; no salt added is preferable)a few shakes of ground oreganoone or two shakes of garlic salt and/or onion salt (optional [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to preference [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], garlic powder can be substituted)Pecorino Romano cheese (optional, to taste. Cheese can alternatively be sprinkled later on top of the pasta and sauce)
use the tomato sauce above as the base1 small yellow onion (or ½ of a larger onion)Olive oil, enough to sauté the meat and onionsenough to sauté the meat and onions½ pound of steak or pork: the cut of meat should have some fat and/or marbling since the fat will add flavor (a chuck blade or similar cut of meat or pork shoulder or similar)
Cut the steak (or pork) into small cubes (smaller than bite-sized but not tiny)Heat the olive oil in a frying pan and add onions, sauté until onions are transparentAdd the meat and brown slightlyPlace tomato sauce base in a sauce pan and then add the browned meatSimmer sauce for a minimum of 30 minutes. The meat will tenderize as it continues to cook, so 45-60 minutes will make the meat soft and tasty. Do not simmer more than 60 minutes. If excess fat rises to the top, you may skim it off

Prepare ingredients together in blender at a low speed (the lowest setting). It takes very little time to turn canned tomatoes to liquid, so it is critical not to over blend.Simmer sauce for approximately 10-15 minutes; do not overcook or it will start to turn sour (simmer 10 minutes for pizza sauce since it will continue to cook while in the over, simmer for 15 minutes for pasta sauce)After simmering, add sauce to cooked pasta or on top of the pizza dough before placing in the oven to bakeLeftover sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for approximately one weekMeat Sauce
Though tomato sauce was not always a popular dish in Italy , it has become a staple food there and is very popular with Italian-Americans. It is tempting to buy a jar of prepared tomato sauce, twist off the lid, and dump it over a pile of pasta. However, most store bought sauces taste terrible and are not nutritious.
Prepared sauces almost always have sugar added, even high fructose corn syrup. Tomatoes are technically a fruit and already have an inherent sweetness, so the addition of sweeteners is completely unnecessary. Some commercial sauces also have oils added. Even olive oil adds extra, unwanted calories and can detract from the pure [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], natural flavor of the tomato. Pure tomato is healthy and packed with nutritional value.
This sauce can be used for pasta or for pizza. There is no need to vary the recipe depending on the use.
