The green drinks can include appletini’s with a pear or green apple slice in it, lime-aid and Sprite or 7up with green food coloring.
Although sugar cookies work best for dying green, peanut butter cookies and chocolate chip work also.Green Drinks and Traditional Irish Beer
Other traditional foods include shepherds pie, pea and ham soup, soda bread, potato soup [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and buttermilk scones.
Side items can be green as well. Serve some food that is naturally green to switch it up from the artifically green food. A spinach salad with a honey mustard dressing or asparagus spears would make a nice side dish. Green apples can be placed in bowls around the house which can serve as food and décor.
However, corned beef and cabbage is a very Irish/American dish and for a party, it conjures up thoughts of Ireland so go ahead and serve it. Also serve reuben sandwiches on rye bread.
With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner it’s time to start thinking about a festive Irish party. But, what’s a festive party without festive food and drink? Whether it’s a small party with just a few guests or a large party, here are some ideas of what to serve.
To make friends “green” with envy at your party, serve food with a hint of green for that Irish feel. Most foods can be made festive with just a few drops of green food coloring. That is, if guests can stomach the idea of eating food that isn’t usually green.
To wash down the green food go with a green drink or an Irish beer. These drinks can be alcoholic or non-alcoholic.
Some food to be made green:
The most popular Irish beer by far is Guinness, but all kinds of stouts, lagers and ales are acceptable Irish beers. Green beer is also very popular on St. Patrick’s Day. This can be accomplished by taking a light colored beer, preferably an ale, and adding a few drops of green food coloring. That will top off the green theme for the party.
While most people automatically think of corned beef and cabbage, according to Irish Culture and Customs, people of Ireland don’t generally eat this dish. Beef is thought of as a delicacy and not always readily available. A more traditional entrée is boiled cabbage and bacon.
Dessert
For adults, nothing tops off the night quite like an Irish coffee or Bailey’s Irish Crème.
