[/b]Fascism grew so rapidly that within two years, it transformed itself into the National Fascist Party at a congress in Rome. Also in 1921, Mussolini was elected to the Chamber of Deputies.
Fasci Italiani di Combattimento
Mussolini combined the ideas of Plato, Sorel, Nietzsche, Pareto and others to create the ideology of Fascism. Based on nationalism, corporatism, imperialism [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], anti-Socialism and anti-Communism, his philosophy advocated the total domination of the government in political, social, economic and cultural life. "Everything in the state," Mussolini said. "Nothing outside the state. Nothing against the state."

[b]March on Rome
When he reversed his opposition to World War I, Mussolini was ousted from the party. He started the pro-war newspaper Il Popolo d'Italia and served in the Italian army. After being wounded by a grenade, he returned home to promote the need for a strong leader "ruthless and energetic enough to make a clean sweep" of politics and revive the Italian nation.
Born in Predappio, Italy, to a socialist blacksmith in 1883, Mussolini was a rebellious [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], bright youth. He became active in politics, and lived in exile in Switzerland and Austria, where he worked at socialist newspapers. He became a socialist and served as the anti-war, anti-nationalist editor of the Socialist Party newspaper in Italy from 1912-14.
The Fascist political movement was founded in Milan, Italy, by Benito Mussolini in 1919. In one generation, it spread to Germany, Austria, Spain, Rumania, Portugal, Greece and other countries.

Mussolini and the Fascist Movement in Italy
The Savoy Dynasty of Italy
On Sunday, March 23, 1919, Mussolini launched a political movement that marked the official birth of Fascism. That morning, 200 people, including war veterans, pro-war syndicalists and intellectuals, met at the Milan Industrial and Commercial Alliance to "declare war against socialism … because it opposed nationalism."
Mussolini gained notoriety as a counterrevolutionary traditionalist and dynamic orator at rallies. And his armed, black-shirted squadristi militia used violence against political opponents, with the goal of restoring order. The blackshirts often clashed with Socialists and Communists at parades.
On this day in history, March 23:
Initially, Italians and foreigners saw Mussolini as a strong leader who imposed discipline on society. He introduced social reforms and rebuilt the infrastructure, expanding public works projects that won wide support. In a nation known for disorganization, it was said that Mussolini "made the trains run on time."
Mussolini called his movement the Fasci Italiani di Combattimento, or Italian combat squad. The term Fascism is derived from the Latin fasces, a bundle of rods strapped together around an axe. A symbol of authority in ancient Rome, it represented absolute power.
With financial support from employers squeezed by trade unions and corrupt politicians, Mussolini developed a loyal following among disenchanted, angry, mostly lower-middle-class conservatives and veterans, as well as the military, the business elite, and the right wing. He promised them he would end disorder and corruption, and recreate the glory of the Roman Empire.
The Fascist State
In the summer of 1922, the Socialists and Communists called for a general strike, so Mussolini organized the March on Rome, a coup d’etat to force the king to summon him to form a new government. The traditional parties caved in, and King Victor Emmanuel appointed him prime minister, the youngest in Italian history, on October 28 [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 1922.
